You have an old couch, a bed frame, a dresser, or all three. You need them gone. There are five real options in the DFW area, and which one makes sense depends on the condition of the furniture, how fast you need it out, and how much effort you want to put in.
Option 1: Donate it
If the furniture is clean, functional, and not torn up, donation is the best outcome. Items get a second life and you get a tax receipt. Several organizations in the DFW area pick up furniture directly from your home:
- Salvation Army. DFW locations), free pickup for qualifying items. Schedule online. They're selective about condition.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStores. Fort Worth, Arlington, Lewisville)) sells donated furniture and building materials. Also does pickups.
- Goodwill, select locations), typically drop-off only, but worth calling your nearest location.
The catch: they won't take everything. Stained upholstery, broken frames, and anything that looks rough usually gets turned away. If your furniture isn't in clean condition, this option probably won't work. And pickup scheduling can take a week or two.
Option 2: List it on Facebook Marketplace or Nextdoor
Working furniture listed free on Facebook Marketplace or Nextdoor Grapevine moves fast. Post a photo, mark it free pickup, and it's usually gone within 24 hours. Buyers come to you, load it themselves, and drive away. Zero cost to you.
This works well for sofas, dining tables, dressers, and bed frames in decent condition. It doesn't work for furniture that's too worn for anyone to want, or when you need it out today and can't wait for someone to show up.
Option 3: Put it at the curb
Grapevine and most DFW cities allow bulk item curbside pickup, but it's scheduled separately from regular trash. Contact the City of Grapevine Public Works or your city's solid waste department to schedule a bulk pickup. Most cities allow one or two items per scheduled pickup.
Limitations: scheduled pickups can be a week or more out. You have to get the item to the curb yourself. And there are limits on what the city will take, some items like mattresses require special handling fees.
Option 4: Rent a dumpster
If you have a large volume of furniture and other junk across a renovation or move, a dumpster rental in DFW runs $300 to $600 depending on size. You load it yourself over a few days, they pick it up. This makes sense for projects, not for getting rid of one or two pieces.
Option 5: Call a junk removal crew
When you need it gone today, can't move it yourself, or have more than one or two pieces, this is the fastest and most complete option. A crew shows up, loads everything, and takes it away in one visit. No scheduling furniture donation pickups, no strangers from Marketplace coming to your house, no hauling it to the curb yourself.
For a single sofa or large item, expect $100 to $175. A bedroom set or several pieces runs $175 to $300. We give you the price on the phone before we come.
