Old backyard sheds are one of those things that accumulate junk over decades, then become a job in themselves to remove. Whether yours is rotting wood, rusting metal, or a prefab plastic unit that's seen better days, getting it out of your yard requires demolition and haul, not just loading. Here's how it works.

Types of sheds and how they come down

Wood sheds. The most common in older DFW neighborhoods. Typically demolished with a reciprocating saw, pry bar, and manual labor. The materials, siding, roofing, framing lumber, flooring, get broken down into manageable pieces and loaded. A standard 10x12 wood shed takes two to three hours to demo and load.

Metal sheds. Prefab metal storage sheds. Arrow, Lifetime, etc., can sometimes be disassembled rather than demolished, the panels unbolt. If the shed is in salvageable shape, we may be able to offer it free on Marketplace to someone who wants to reassemble it. If it's bent, rusted, or damaged, it gets cut down and hauled as scrap metal.

Plastic/resin sheds. These come apart in panels and are relatively straightforward to remove. Lighter than wood and metal. Generally not recyclable, they go as solid waste.

What to do before demo

Empty the shed completely before we arrive. Anything left inside adds time and potentially cost if we have to remove and haul shed contents in addition to the structure. If the shed has any electrical connections, lights, outlets, have an electrician disconnect them before demolition. Don't assume an old shed isn't wired just because you don't use it.

Check for any permits required by your city or HOA before demolition. Most cities don't require a permit to demolish a shed under a certain square footage, but it's worth confirming. Grapevine homeowners: check with the city's development services department if your shed is large or attached to another structure.

Shed contents

If you also need the shed contents cleared, tools, lawn equipment, boxes, let us know when you call. We can haul the contents and the shed in one visit. It'll affect the total price but saves you a separate scheduling step.
